Dinosaurs and More!

We have been learning all about Dinosaurs in our inquiry unit 'Dinosaurs and More!' We were lucky enough to visit The National Dinosaur Museum last Wednesday, where we had the opportunity to participate in a fossil cast activity and went on a tour of the museum. Have a look at some of our photos from the day.

We also completed a Design, Make and Appraisal on a Dino Shield that we were able to create during our Technologies lesson. Thank you to all our families for donating their recycling materials for us to make our amazing shields. Have a look at some of our designs.

What was your favourite feature on your Dino Shield?

Technologies

In Digital Technologies we have been learning to program BeeBots. We have decided on the direction we want them to go and drawn arrows on our plan. We then program the path into the BeeBot. We have been using the language forward, backwards, left, right, turn, up and down.

In Design Technologies we have been designing and constructing bridges. Our challenge was to build a bridge that our 'chicken' would be able to use to cross the road. These are some of our bridges.

Maths Extra

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about Patterns (BER) and 2D Shapes (Unit 1).
We have been doing lots of hands on exploring with materials.

We can make patterns with colours, blocks, shapes, numbers and symbols.

These are some of our Repeating Patterns:

These are some of our growing patterns:

The 2D shapes we have been exploring are rectangles, circles, squares, triangles and ovals. We've even looked at hexagons, pentagons and octagons!  Can you make a repeating pattern with some of these shapes?

Have you filled a bucket today?

We have been reading the story 'How full is your bucket?' By Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer
during our SEL lessons. We use this book to promote our SCARF values in the school community. We have talked about how to fill a bucket and how by filling someone else's bucket you fill your own as well! We also talked about being a bucket dipper. 😢 Here is the link to watch the story How full is your bucket? Please enjoy the story with your loved ones and chat about how you could be a Bucket Filler!

The Invisible String

We have been reading 'The Invisible String' By Patrice Karst during our SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) lessons. This book reassures children that even though they can't always be with a loved one, they're always in each other's hearts. Whenever a child thinks about a family member, the Invisible String gives a tug.

Readers' Workshop

Caught You Reading!

During Readers' Workshop this week we have been learning how to find the perfect place to read. Some students prefer their desk, others prefer quiet spaces on the floor and some prefer laying on cushions.

We have also been learning about the 3 ways to read a book:
1. Read the pictures
2. Read the words
3. Retell the story

We caught these students reading in their perfect spots....

Where is your perfect spot?
Why is it your perfect spot to read?
