Japanese Fun Day!

We were lucky enough to participate in the Japanese Fun Day on Wednesday. We started the day with 3 fantastic rotations that some Year 6 students helped us with - we played games in the Hall (it was a bit soggy outside), we made rice balls (onigiri) in the Kitchen Classroom and also played some indoor games. Fishing for koi was a highlight!  After recess we were entertained with a fabulous performance by George and Noriko and then made a tanuki twirler! In the afternoon we enjoyed a story 'Kintaro' (Golden Boy).

Dinosaur Museum Excursion

Year 1/2 were lucky enough to visit the Dinosaur Museum today. We had lots of fun learning about different dinosaurs and other animals from the past.

What is an interesting fact you learnt today?
In Maths Extra we are exploring Volume and Capacity and revisiting the work we have done on Money and Time.

The Elves and Dragons have been busy using MAB ones and unifix cubes to measure the volume of various containers. We even used playdough to make a 'container' which would hold a rectangular prism made from 12 MAB ones.
We know that volume is the amount of space occupied by an object  and capacity is the amount a container can hold!

Technology Challenge

Our challenge was to build a tower out of paper. Our tower had to be as tall as we could make it and we were only allowed 6 pieces of paper, masking tape and scissors. We talked about the ways we could make paper stronger (roll, fold, concertina).
Have a look at our AMAZING designs!!!!
